Peace out

Hello. I'm Jack. It just didn't seem right to have someone else write my bio, so I'm gonna try to tell you what I want you to know about me.

The only awards any of my songs have ever won is for some of them to have been sung by friends of mine. What an honor! Some of them also get requested when I come around, so I'm assuming they are memorable. I did win second place at the Froth and Java coffee shop in Victoria one time in a talent contest, and I did make it past the first round in the "Rising Stars Across Texas" talent contest also in Victoria. Some notable folks have told me that they like my songs, but I don't want to be a name dropper.

I was born in Nacogdoches, lived in Tenaha (population 615 when I was there) till I was nine, then moved to Port Lavaca after a brief stay in Port O'Connor. I met my wife Lura Faye at Victoria College back in the 70's and we've brought two wonderful children - Clark and Emily - into the world. We've been together 33 years now. She's a saint! We now live on her family's land in Edna. I've never lived outside Texas, and the largest town I've ever lived in was Nacogdoches except for a few months in Houston which was way too busy for me. Some folks would say I "ain't never been took nowhere" but I did get half way around the world while I was in the merchant marines and I did go to college, so I have been exposed to a few things.

I started writing songs about ten years ago and took guitar lessons nine years ago at age 48 when I realized that the songs would never be heard if I didn't sing 'em. It's taken me until now to finish a CD of 13 songs, though I've written many more and have other CD projects planned. Since music has been therapy for me the first CD is called "In Treatment". It's a pretty diverse collection - some are funny, some are love songs, some are rockers, some are slow. I write songs for my own catharsis, to express myself, to be thought provoking, and hopefully to spread a little happiness around.

The website was constructed as a result of my music, but I also intend to us it to promote the various retreats I have access to, to promote other artists that Lura Faye and I appreciate, and to offer bits of wisdom (such as it is) that I've accumulated over the years. I hope you enjoy whatever you find as a result of visiting here.
